In stark contrast, Indonesia has grappled with a complex regulatory landscape concerning the governance of Kratom trees. The nation has witnessed a series of legalizations, subsequent de-legalizations, and subsequent re-legalizations of these species over time.

 

Notably, amidst these regulatory shifts, the Indonesian government, under the leadership transition to President Prabowo and the strategic relocation of the capital from Jakarta to Kalimantan (the island popularly recognized as Borneo), has pivoted towards recognizing the inherent value of their indigenous Agarwood species, locally known as Gaharu, historically rooted in the Borneo woodlands.
