Magic Gaharu (Q'inan)
Choice is greater than effort, in agriculture, species decides victory ..
Yup, Q'inan, Kinan or Khynam, whatever way you want to pronounce it means 'Magic'. The story goes that 100's of years ago a 'normal' though very old and very big Sinensis tree - which is the Agarwood species that particularly grows very well and is originally from China - was hit by lighting in a great storm. As we all know Agarwood trees need to 'suffer' before they produce 'Agar' inside the tree, and it seems that this particular suffering was so huge that the tree miraculously produced Agar much faster than 'normal' Agarwood Sinensis trees.
Now it needs to be said that in all our experiences we had in the three different countries it is still paramount to understand that the Sinensis species grows faster than any other species. Where Malacensis may take 18 to 20 years to mature, Sinensis trees can mature in 'only' 12 years. The strange thing about the Khynam species (I like to write it that way) is that it is growing even faster than that - normally 2 years will be enough to mature.
After this drilling (as in putting a normal house-type wall drill in it and making holes in the tree) is enough to have the Khynam tree produce Agar inside the tree. Magic isn't it?

So the people from the village in question started making grafts of this 'mother tree' and it miraculously worked as well for the 'daughter tree' as well. After two years the tree was mature enough to be drilled and 'only' three years it could be harvested.
Enough more magic than the other Agarwood trees - if the graft (or clone) is cut around 60 cm height, it will grow back again, all by itself. It's truly magic.
