The inoculation activity that we do in the field is to make the trees produce agar.

Iwan at Work

Iwan, our dedicated Director of Research and Development, is currently immersed in the meticulous process of inoculating 400 Malacensis trees on the island of Bangka. This ambitious project involves a carefully selected group of 10 farmers who have been given the opportunity to participate in this innovative endeavor. Meanwhile, a multitude of farmers are eagerly waiting for their chance to have their Malacensis trees inoculated, reflecting the growing interest and anticipation within the community.

On the island of Bangka alone, there are over 1,000,000 Malacensis trees, a testament to the island’s commitment to preserving this nearly extinct species, which is indigenous to the neighboring island of Sumatra. Prima Plants Indonesia is spearheading efforts to further expand these conservation initiatives by preparing an astounding one million seedlings. These seedlings, produced from clones at the state-of-the-art Primadomo lab, are designated for planting on the neighboring island of Belitung—a move that marks a significant expansion of environmental efforts in the region.

It is noteworthy that approximately 19 years ago, when Bangka boldly decided to embark on planting Malacensis, its neighboring island, Belitung, did not partake in these pioneering efforts. However, with the impending transplantation of seedlings, Belitung is poised to join the noble cause, ushering in a new era of ecological restoration and sustainability.

We are eagerly anticipating the receipt of videos featuring Iwan and Gianto, the esteemed Plantation Director of PPI’s Jogja Plantation. These visual insights will provide a valuable glimpse into their methods and progress. In the meantime, we extend our heartfelt wishes to Iwan for success with this Pilot Project, marking the fourth collaborative venture between him and Gianto. We look forward to reuniting with Iwan and witnessing the growth of these remarkable trees in six months' time.

This project not only underscores our unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability but also highlights the collaborative spirit and forward-thinking vision that drives our initiatives. By combining innovative scientific techniques with local expertise, we are confident in our ability to contribute meaningfully to the conservation of the Malacensis species and the broader ecological balance of the region.
